Sometimes, in cosplay as with life, things go wrong. I had thought sewing the circles for Amora's leggings was the greatest idea ever. Seven days later, and not even halfway done I remembered how slow at handsewing I am, and then on Sunday I tried them on, and I HATED them. It didn't look right at all.
So I mixed together some fabric/craft paint I had, and then I added a touch of acrylic to darken it up, and here it is! I think that cosplay can be so helpful because it develops my problem-solving skills. I could have just trashed the whole thing, but instead I came up with something that I feel ultimately looks better.
Last year when I was making Lady Loki about a week and a half before DCC I realized that the costume I had spent months on wasn't going to work the way I had planned. I remember laying on the floor staring at the ceiling and feeling completely lost. There was no way this was going to work, aside from my steampunk it was my ONLY costume, and now I had to see if I could get any of my other costumes con ready, or if I could somehow save the situation because I was in tears.
I ended up talking to my mother about it. She used to make all the costumes my brother and I wore for Halloween, maybe she had an idea. She did, I picked her up and we went fabric shopping, and while the costume didn't come out exactly as planned, I still had a total blast wearing it and at the con!
P.S. don't you just love the dog-blanket in the photos? My dog brings her blanket into my closet to sleep. :)
Until next time, happy costuming! And let me know if you have any questions!
