Wigs
Amphigory is one of the longest supporters of wigs for cosplayers. They also sell a lot of other beauty products, great styling and extension products, and the best customer service Darkin and I can think of. I ordered my first wig from them back in 2002 (the Nuriko wig) and I ordered the extensions to add to the wig a few years later then I turned it into the Harvest Goddess. Darkin used wig, extensions, and the bang addition from Amphigory when she made her Ramza wig. Calintz (later Black Cat) and many other wigs of ours have come from here. We appreciate their honesty and that they don't just tell you what you want to hear.
Arda is awesome. They are incredibly customer oriented, had awesome and easy solutions for wigs styling (clip on EVERYTHING in colors that match your wig PERFECTLY). There wigs are also heat-resistant, which are great. Yes, you can use heat to style them (carefully), BUT they are so much more resilient! They tangle more slowly that other wigs, and when they do tangle, they recover better after a good brushing out. Plus they look lovely in pictures.
I like this info-page :) So because most cosplay wigs are synthetic you can not use normal hair-dye on them. This shows how to dye a synthetic wig. Or you could be like Darkin and color it with sharpees all by hand, but I think you need the patience of a saint to do that.
Make-Up
I know you may not wear make-up normally, but I strongly encourage you to do so when cosplaying. The flash of cameras are not terribly forgiving, and make-up lets you look "normal" rather than sickly or too "textured." lol. Also maybe you do want to look sickly for the cosplay, emphasize it. If you don't know where to start, here are some helpful pages, AND don't forget the usefulness of YouTube tutorials!
A lot of annoying pop-ups, but also a lot of great information!
This is a lot wordier, but REALLY helpful. Less images and no pop-ups.
